Our History
Grayson County CASA was founded by a small group of local citizens who recognized that children entering the foster care system often had no one advocating exclusively for them. Inspired by the national CASA movement — begun in Seattle in 1977 by Judge David Soukup — these community leaders brought the program to our county and trained our first cohort of volunteer advocates.
From those early days with just a handful of volunteers and a borrowed office, we have grown into a professionally staffed organization supporting dozens of active advocates who collectively serve hundreds of children each year. Every milestone has been made possible by community generosity and the tireless dedication of our volunteers.
Today, Grayson County CASA is a proud member of the Texas CASA network and National CASA/GAL, holding ourselves to the highest standards of training, supervision, and child-centered advocacy.

What a CASA Volunteer Does
A Court Appointed Special Advocate is an ordinary community member who makes an extraordinary commitment — to stand up and speak out for a child who has experienced abuse or neglect.
- Builds a trusted relationship with the child by visiting regularly and listening without judgment.
- Investigates the case by reviewing records and consulting with everyone involved in the child's life.
- Writes reports for the court with an independent recommendation focused solely on the child's best interests.
- Connects families to community resources and services that support reunification or permanency.
- Follows the case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home — a process that can span months or years.
